1.93 miles in 32:52.62 for 3.5 mph. Carried a pack weighing 9.5 pounds total. I could really feel the added weight in my legs. Amazing that not very long ago I was carry much more than that around all the time!
This is one of the many quaint blocks of row houses in Harrisburg. I wonder what the city looked like in its prime? Or, maybe the bright colors, though Victorian, were covered in soot from the many iron and steel works in the area?

2.10 miles in 35:50.44 or 3.5 mph today.
Today was my first day with my new REI Venturi 30 pack. Very nice. The pack itself weighs 2.6 pounds. I put my rain gear and one empty Camelbak Bottle in it. Total weight I guess at 5 pounds. I'll be working this weight up as I go.

1.84 miles in 31:40.25 or 17:15/mi which felt more impressive than it turns out to be.
This section of trail is one of the reasons the loop trail is so difficult in the dark. At the end of the trail ahead is a high-pressure sodium lamp that blinds you thoroughly so that you can't see what's ahead of your feet or anything around you.

Little Buffalo State Park
Had a blast yesterday at Little Buffalo State Park. We did about 4.8 miles (although we had a GPS operator problem that prevented exact measurement). The Big Ridge Trail and the Middle Ridge Trail will really get your heart going and your breathing deep with all their ups and downs. Phenomenal day, though.

So, 4.13 miles in 1:10:29.34. Felt awesome. I've ordered an internal frame backpack so I can start carrying weight. I don't want to add more time to the work out.
Some pictures after the break.

Obviously, I didn't post Monday or Tuesday.
Monday was a flying trip day to Herndon. I did 40 minutes which should have been about 2 miles. But I don't have the Forerunner 305 data handy here. I went down river because I finally paid sufficient attention to the wind direction to head down wind for the first leg. I like the breeze in my face on the return leg. I also preferred heading down river. Is that because it's a change? Or is that going to be an abiding preference? Only time will tell.
Here are a couple of pictures from Monday:
Tuesday was a travel day. For me exercise HAS to be the first thing of the day. I just don't have the discipline to make myself do it later in the day. Here a couple of "in transit" shots:

A beginning
Just a personal blog to detail my progress hiking.
I started on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Headed out with my Merrell light hiking boots and did about 2.4 miles out and back along the Capital Greenbelt next to the Susquehanna River. Felt fairly good.
On Sunday, I did 3 miles out and back along the same route. Plenty tight hamstrings but other than than...acceptable
On Monday, I did 3 miles again. Same route. Legs felt like I had run the previous two times. Achy and tight.
On Tuesday I rested. Mainly because I had done 8.4K steps on the Fitbit. I had been to the Pentagon which always entails a lot of walking and a good bit of unmeasured steps because of having to locker my fitbit.
Today, I set out from the apartment intending to do a 30 minute out and back. But, I was delighted to discover a 1.9 mile loop that begins and ends right at the apartment. Right now, this is perfect for my pace. Like 38 minutes or so. I don't have the data near at hand at them moment.
